Well, here we are. It’s 2009, a new year, a new month and a new day. Every time I turn, I see commercials for ‘Resolutions’ from going to the gym to dieting. Have you made resolutions for this year? What are you going to ‘try’ to do for 2009? I read a quote by Lester Levenson (founder of The Sedona Method) that read “Trying is wanting approval for something that you have no intention of doing” and it made me think. What resolutions have I ‘tried’ to realize in the past as well as now? How finally did I get to where I am? There’s stress everywhere from the economy to just surviving the daily ‘rat race’ of rushing to work, rushing home and trying to spend time with the family. We stay up as late as we can, wake up early to then repeat the whole cycle again the very next day. There’s a weekly countdown of how soon will Friday get here again. I’m asked time and time again…How do I stop the brain chatter?

The mind has a job. As I’ve discussed in other blogs, it’s job is to think. Read the rest of this entry »
Years ago there was a woman that was a fitness guru of sorts and she was always screaming, “Stop the insanity!” Do any of you remember?
We all could very well be saying the same thing to ourselves today. Our minds are ‘digging our spiritual graves’ and just like the saying goes…’An idle mind is the devil’s playground’.
The number one question I get is, ‘How do I stop the brain chatter?’. Ironically enough, our minds are idle AND they do not want to shut off at the same time! Envision a merry go round just…going around. Nobody is on it, it just is going on automatic. Our minds are idle in the fact that it is not thinking any NEW thoughts. We’re just re-thinking all of the SAME negative thoughts.
Many of us have had histories where we were taught to think…well…negatively. We are ultimately victims raised by victims. Our parents did the best they could and if they didn’t know how to do something, well you just were not going to learn it from them! How could they teach you something they themselves never learned? Mindfulness meditation involves opening the attention to become aware of the continuously passing sensations, feelings, images, thoughts, sounds, smells, etc. without becoming involved in thinking about them. I like to imagine that whatever thoughts enter my mind, are clouds floating by in the sky on a windy day. Very much like the waves of the ocean and it’s repetitive cycle of the waves crashing against the shore line. Read the rest of this entry »
